Freelance Writing Jobs: 2 High-Paying Web Writing Jobs with Little Competition
76I’ve been a freelance writer/editor since 1993. And one of the reasons I think I’ve had so much success as a freelance writer is that I “niche it.” I believe that it’s easier to “niche it to success,” simply because it’s easier to market when you work this way.
To this end, following are a couple of high-paying freelance writing niches with less competition than a lot of other niches. Both are in the internet marketing sector.
Internet Marketing: A Wide-Ranging Niche with Plenty of Work & Less Competition
Internet marketing is a far-reaching industry with many subniches. One of these is SEO copywriting. In 2007, I started writing search engine optimized (SEO) content. Before this, the types of writing I did was all over the place – sales letters, newsletters, web copy, company manuals, etc.
But, once I stumbled onto SEO writing, it quickly became about 75% of my work load. The more I marketed for this type of work, the more assignments rolled in. Clients referred me to other clients; prospects ran across my website; web designers recommended me to their clients who wanted this type of writing done; etc.
Then, I wrote an ebook telling other freelance writers how to become SEO writers. Of course, I marketed it. This solidified my reputation as the “go to” freelancer for SEO writing work. In fact, if you Google “SEO writing,” sooner or later, you’re going to run across something written by me.

2 Hot Freelance Writer Jobs in the Internet Marketing Niche
Writing SEO content encompasses more than turning out simple SEO articles and blog posts. Following are two more kinds of SEO content – and they pay very well.
Pay-Per-Click Ad Writers: In early 2009, I landed a major pay-per-click company as client. They run seminars all over the country teaching companies how to set up and run profitable pay per click marketing campaigns.
And, they outsource a lot of the pay per click ad writing to freelance writers. Not only that, their clients – the companies they teach to to set up and run pay per click campaigns – hire a lot of freelance writers to write ads also.
And you know what, they pay a tidy sum to them to.
Why? Quite frankly, companies use advertise via pay-per-click know the value of good copy – and they don’t flinch at paying a good writer; one who can offer them a good ROI (return on investment).
At the end of the day, all they care about is if their pay per click ads are turning surfers into customers (or qualified leads). A good SEO writer – one who understands the intricacies of internet marketing – is worth their weight in gold.
When you think about it, it makes sense because it’s just another cost of doing business. So if they pay a freelance writer a few hundred dollars for a few 35-word ads, but those ads produce hundreds of leads or thousands of dollars in sales – then it’s soooo worth it for them.
If you’re an SEO writer, learning how to write pay per click ads is not hard to learn; in fact, it’s quite easy. All it takes is some web research and some practice. Once you get the hang of it though, you can pitch yourself to clients as a “pay per click ad writing specialist.”
And charge a mint!
Landing Page Writers: A landing page is the page visitors land on when they click through from a pay per click ad (or any other type of web marketing).
Landing pages are usually very long. But, they don’t have to be; they can be short also.
They’re usually written in long form though to mimic what’s known in the TV world as an “infomercial.” Who better to write this type of copy than an SEO writer.
There are several components to creating an effective landing page. And, this is why these suckers require some skill to write.
An astute SEO copywriter though can research the various components of a landing page and write a very effective one.
Once you get this skill under your belt, you can pitch businesses like advertising agencies and internet marketing firms – and practically name your price.
It’s not uncommon for a talented landing page writer to charge a few thousand dollars to write just one page of copy. After all, that’s all a landing page is – one page.
And the reason an internet marketer will pay you this is because it could bring them thousands of dollars in orders – especially if they have a high-priced product.
Example of a Landing Page
See an example of a landing page. This is one I wrote to promote my ebook on how to make $100-$150 per day placing ads on free classified sites. This is all a landing page is – nothing more, nothing less.
But again, it does take some skill. You have to know how to touch on “emotional triggers,” where to put offers, how to package offers, what gets people to buy, etc.
Despite the fact that these two freelance writing jobs take some research, it is all stuff you can learn on your own, practice on your own, put together samples on your own – and start landing clients on your own.
But, it all starts with learning internet marketing and SEO writing.

Krisiti,
We're on the same career path. I'm finding it more fun to use my writing skills to produce and promote my own products, so much so that I'm "retiring" from writing for clients in January of the coming year.
Hence, I totally agree with your assessment that writers who are really serious about making money online and building passive income streams. . . should consider internet marketing writing."
Couldn't have said it better myself.
Thanks for sharing your story, and continued success to you.
Great tips on making a decent income on SEO writing. Thanks.
Excellent intro to high-paying writing jobs, though I would've appreciated links to actual sources of employment. I'm voting this one Useful and Up and linking it to my writing jobs article.
@alocsin: The reason there's no link to sources of employment is that you have to find these clients yourself.
Thanks for dropping by and for the nice vote.

Excellent article, always like your posts an your blog. One query, what is the truth behind your link on classified ads http://freeadssell.info/. Is this more of an emotional targeted squeeze page or is the sales page showing actual results in the timescales you mention?

Hey Yuwanda-
Great Hub. Like you, I truly believe in the power of internet marketing and utilizing one's writing and marketing skills to their advantage. I was a freelance writer for over 10 years and then I discovered internet marketing. For the past 3 years, I have delved deep into the field and although it hasn't been easy, it has been worth it. Creating landing pages and learning how to use search engine optimization techniques to get my niche sites ranked is really fun and profitable. With my skills, I can promote my own products as well as those of others. If writers are really serious about making money online and building passive income streams, they should consider internet marketing writing too.
